"Amount
due"
Oil and collage on canvas
51" x 39" / 129.5cm x 99cm
2003
Life is given as a credit account, at the begining it's something granted, at the end, if there is no change, it's a disaster. Like any credit account, payments are required in a regular basis, like in real life, someone you love die, or you have to fight againt illnesses, or you have to go thru economic problems, or you can't even pay your credit accounts. This artwork made using real credit cards, is in my opinion a similarity of the "gift" (called life) that we are given for a short period of time, right before the endless falling into the eternity, in other words: The final payment due, your own life.

"The
incredible story of the Guira de Macurije's cows"
Oil on canvas
36" x 48 " / 91.5cm x 122cm
2003
This is a real story that used to happen close to my home town in Cuba. For those who don't know this reality, in Cuba is strictly prohibited to eat beaf, or even kill a cow to eat it, that goverment regulation has been taken effect since nearly 30 years ago or more, along with it's consecuences and fatalities. Someone cought killing, eating, selling or even storing beaf can go to jail for 20 years (punish for killing a human been is 8 to 10 years). Then according the story showed in this painting some people decided not to kill the cow but to tight it to the rail road, then when the train pass by the cow gets killed, and punish for getting some meat from a previous killed cow is not too severe, just in case they get cought, also in previous agreement with the train driver, in that area the train will go slowly, the less damge the more meat (he also takes some). I don't really pretend to spread sadness or bad thoughts to other people, I'm just painting what I see. I was sad when I knew about it too.
